GranArtesana
GranArtesana is a machine that aims to criticize the perception of handcrafts in Mexico through the production of an object, using Grana Cochinilla as a key material.

Mexican crafts have been transformed to the point of having a poetic meaning and sentimental by the manual work, however the exploitation of the craftsman and the demand for commercial crafts has made that the traditional forms of work are replaced by production in line, series or of industrial way, resulting in low quality handicrafts and converted into crafts and even brands that lose all the cultural values that an artisan can transmit through his work.

The natural dye of the cochineal grana has a direct relationship with Mexican artisans since it carries intrinsic knowledge, expertise in the handling and mastery of the material, the constant evolution of work and a unique cultural burden. All these values have been transmitted between generations from pre-Hispanic times to the present day.

This project was a collaboration with Carlos Ordoñez, directed by José De La O.g
